inspiration or life-giving?
Well, its the 2nd week of 2007.altho' its a new year, things seem to be the same.. eg. going to work, studying, and er... working..
things in the natural might be the same.. but in the spiritual... i sense such a freedom. Truly theres a great deal of excitement in me.. but more than that, i sense a call to deeper intimacy. Just coming back to the basics, and building on character.. yup.. thats the word for me this year.. character. =)
Anyway.. back to the topic.
On the way to work, took the NEL line. (
i seriously enjoy going to work, just hate squeezing in with the crowd on the mrt. argh.) Was looking at the board thing.. u noe the place where they say how long more the next train will take.. And i realize that everyday they put some kindof inspirational words on that digital board. Today went sthg like "Don't let obstacles stop you. When u meet a wall, dun turn back. Find a way around it, through it, or under it --- Michael Jordan"
I glanced through the crowd n wondered how many of those people were going through obstacles and were feeling the tremendous pressure of our Singaporean lifestyle. I wondered how many of them felt like giving up..
Words do make a difference. "Life and death are in the power of the tongue... (proverbs 18:21)". I suppose many of those who read those words spoken by Michael Jordan might have suddenly felt a glimmer of hope in their heart. Telling themselves not to give up...
Michael Jordan. A basketball player, considered to be the greatest of all time. The role model of every 12-year-old boy aspiring to play basketball nation-wide.
Yes, his words might have caused some to not give up, and to find a way around any circumstance to be successful. But how long would it last?? Michael Jordan, great as he might be, is but a man. His words, thoughy-invoking as they may be, are just
inspiration of man.
in·spi·ra·tion (ĭn'spə-rā'shən) n.
Stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity.
The condition of being so stimulated.
When i looked at those words on the board, I couldnt help but think of the Bible.. Is the Bible just a book of inspirational words? Words that give us just enough hope to carry on?
" All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.... (2 Timothy 3:16)"Firstly, I definitely believe that theres a whole lot of difference between the inspiration of man, and the inspiration of God. I mean.. hello.. He's God u noe.
"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)"I'm not saying that i totally put down man's words. No, coz God uses man. He puts words of inspiration in us. He gives us words of wisdom and revelations. I love reading A.W Tozer's quotes. Witty, serious, funny, and true all at the same time. I love to use catchy quotes and confuse ppl with phrases that require high intellect to understand
(haha..juz kidding) But yet again, the words are all from the Lord.
Secondly.. The Bible is not just a book with a whole bunch of words in them, but the Word is
JESUS."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)"
Here i find the greatest difference between the words of men, and the Word of God. The Bible is more than words to make us happy. Its not a 'drug' that we take have an emotional-high.
It is LIFE-GIVING.
When we read God's word, He breathes life into our soul. Gives us a purpose for living. Gives us the strength of the day.
Guess what I'm trying to say is.... Lets not neglect God's Word and be reminded once again of the great importance of His Words... Let's hold His words so dear in our heart. =D
